Guide
How to choose a POS system in Oman (2026)
The short answer
Choose a POS that keeps selling when the internet drops, prints clear Arabic receipts with your VAT number, lets guests order by QR without a commission on every order, runs on hardware you can buy locally or already own, and comes with support in Arabic from people who can reach you. Most systems in Oman charge a monthly fee per branch plus one-time hardware. Get the full price in writing before you sign.
1. It keeps selling without internet
Why it matters
Connections drop, and they often drop in the busiest hour. Some cloud systems stop taking orders until the connection is back, which means a queue and lost sales.
What to ask
- Can the counter take orders, take payment and print receipts with no internet?
- What syncs when the connection returns, and does anything need to be re-entered?
- Which parts need internet (online ordering, owner reports)?
- Try it in the demo: turn off the Wi-Fi and take an order.
2. Arabic screens and receipts
Why it matters
Staff and guests in Oman read Arabic, English or both. Poor Arabic support shows up as broken letters on receipts or menus your staff cannot read.
What to ask
- Can each staff member switch the screen between Arabic and English?
- Do receipts print Arabic correctly, with joined letters and right-to-left text?
- Can item names and the menu be in both languages?
3. VAT now, Fawtara next
Why it matters
Oman has applied 5% VAT since April 2021, so VAT-registered businesses need correct tax invoices. The Oman Tax Authority is rolling out e-invoicing, called Fawtara, in phases, with the final phase for the remaining VAT-registered businesses due in August 2027.
What to ask
- Does the receipt show your VAT number (VATIN) and the VAT amount correctly?
- Does the system support Fawtara today? If not, when, and at what extra cost?
- Check which Fawtara phase applies to your business with the Oman Tax Authority.
4. QR ordering without commission
Why it matters
Delivery apps take a percentage of each order. Your own QR menu, for tables or for guests in their cars, should not.
What to ask
- Is there a fee or percentage on each QR order?
- Can guests order from a table and from their car?
- How do guests pay: online, at the counter or at the car?
5. Hardware you can get and replace
Why it matters
A tablet or printer will break one day. You want hardware you can replace quickly in Oman, or use what you already own.
What to ask
- Does it run on the tablets and phones you have (Android, iPad)?
- Which receipt printers and kitchen screens work with it?
- Is hardware sold, rented or bring-your-own, and who replaces it if it fails?
6. Support language and location
Why it matters
When something goes wrong on a Friday night, you need an answer fast, in a language your staff speak.
What to ask
- Who answers, how (phone, WhatsApp) and in which language?
- Can they come to set up and train your staff? Is training included?
- Where is the team based, and how far are they from your branches?
7. Monthly price, in general terms
Why it matters
Most POS systems sold in Oman charge a monthly subscription per branch, and some charge per device. Entry plans for one branch range from roughly 10 OMR to several tens of OMR a month, and plans with online ordering, loyalty and inventory cost more. Hardware is usually a separate one-time cost.
What to ask
- Is the price per branch or per device?
- Is there a setup or training fee?
- What costs extra: QR ordering, delivery-app links, more devices, reports?
8. Contract terms
Why it matters
A low monthly price is less useful if you are locked in for years or cannot take your data with you.
What to ask
- Can you pay monthly, or only yearly? What is the notice period to stop?
- Can you export your menu and sales if you leave?
- Can the price change during your contract?

Where Qalib POS fits
We make Qalib POS, so read this part as our own facts, not a neutral review. As of 27 October 2026:
- Offline
- The counter keeps taking orders and payments and printing without internet, and syncs later. QR ordering and the owner app need internet.
- Arabic and English
- Staff screens and receipts in Arabic, English or both.
- VAT and Fawtara
- Receipts show 5% VAT and your VAT number. Fawtara e-invoicing is not built in today: ask us about timing.
- QR ordering
- Included in Plus, with no commission per order. Guests pay at the counter or at the car.
- Hardware
- Your own tablets, phones and receipt printers, or we supply tablets and printers on request.
- Support
- Setup and staff training on site in Sohar and Muscat; elsewhere in Oman, contact us. WhatsApp support from the team that built it.
- Price per branch
- Basic 12 OMR a month or 120 OMR a year. Plus 16 OMR a month or 160 OMR a year. Setup and training included.
- Contract
- Monthly or yearly.
Probably not the best fit if
- you need card payments taken inside the POS itself (with Qalib POS, cards are taken on your bank's card machine and recorded), or
- you need Fawtara e-invoicing built in today.
